Siddhartha Upadhyay is the founder & secretary general of STAIRS and governing body member of Sports Authority of India (SAI).
He is a social entrepreneur committed to bring a dynamic socio-cultural and socio-economic change at the country’s grassroots. Recipient of Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar from President of India, Upadhyay is quite popular among lakhs of young sportspersons across India for creating multiple opportunities for them to exercise their ‘right to play’. As founder and secretary general of STAIRS, he represents the organization in Steering Committee for FIFA U-17 World Cup, BRICS U-17 Tournament, Mission XI Million Programme and a programme of Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society, formed by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Govt of India).
Upadhyay is respected in the development sector for giving hope to the country’s youth, especially the ones at the bottom of the pyramid, with the sole purpose of ensuring that they lead a life of dignity. At present, about three lakh children play with STAIRS ‘everyday’ at over 400 centres spread across 4,000 villages in the country.
Upadhyay is also appreciated by the global sports fraternity for establishing STAIRS School Football League, the world’s largest talent scouting and training programme that promises to engage over 100,000 footballers in India. The programme has also created economic opportunities for thousands of sports professionals and ancillary businesses.
Upadhyay is also a serial entrepreneur and have invested in several businesses across verticals including marketing and branding communication, real estate, e-commerce and sports goods manufacturing. His various businesses engage with some of the country’s largest business conglomerates, public sector undertakings and government. Upadhyay is also an angel investor with investments in several promising start-up businesses.
Known for his clear thinking and knowledge on subjects like socio-economic development and communication as well as life skills, Upadhyay is consistently seen speaking at business forums as well as other national and international events focused at social responsibility and sustainable development issues. He is a member of credible industry bodies including Confederation of India Industries (CII) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
