Mr. Uday Shankar Dutt is a member of the Advisory Board on Bank, Commercial and Financial Frauds set up by the Central Vigilance Commission and an Independent External Monitor of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. He belongs to 1976 Bihar Cadre of the Indian Police Service and retired as DG-cum-CG, Home Guards & Fire Services, Patna. Mr. Dutt is a topper of the Panjab University in Chandigarh, from where he completed M.Sc. (Honors School) in Geology in 1972.
Prior to joining the Indian Police Service he first worked as a geologist in Hindustan Salts in Mandi (HP) between December 1972 and December 1974 and then as Junior Geologist, in the Geological Survey of India till November 1976.
Mr. Dutt was on deputation to the Central Bureau of Investigation for fourteen years. He supervised several sensitive cases pertaining to corruption and economic offences. He closely monitored the investigation of the Harshad Mehta Bank Scam, MMTC export frauds, collapse of the Global Trust Bank (GTB), DSQ Software case, NAFED Fraud of Merchanting Trade Transactions and Initial Public Offer (IPO) Scam, to name a few.
Mr. Dutt was awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service in January 2001.
