Experience the Spirit of Jharkhand with STAIRS' Khelo Khelo Jharkhand Initiative

The programme was flagged off on January 19, 2014 with Dhanbad mini marathon.

The programme covers 67 Gram Panchayats and 112 villages with a population of more than 5.5 lakh. Khelo Dhanbad provides the youth of the region with access to playing facilities and equipment for five games: Volleyball, Sepak Takraw, Cricket, Hockey and Football.

The project will be completed in three phases. In the first phase, Stairs is opening 50 sports centres in and around Dhanbad which will provide facilities for playing Volleyball and Sepak Takraw. Cricket and Hockey will be introduced in the second phase and Football will be the last game for which playing gear and facilities will be provided.

Khelo Dhanbad starts at district level and the surrounding villages and spreads thereon. Stairs focuses on ensuring maximum participation by youth from villages. Each of the centres is manned by two volunteers. A chief volunteer oversees a group of 10 centres. Teams will be chosen from every block which will participate in an Inter-block championship in Dhanbad. The four best teams from 14 blocks will be selected to take part in an Interstate Tournament to be held in Dhanbad.

Stairs will give scholarship to players selected from the sports centres in the villages. The scholars will be provided a platform to hone their skill
